Greater Mouse-eared Bat Myotis myotis




Scientific Name: Myotis myotis (Vespertilionidae).

English Name: Greater Mouse-eared Bat (Vesper bat family).

French Name: Le Grand murin (='the large mouse like bat').

Lookalikes:

Habitat: Hunts in wooded areas, roosts in the attics of big buildings and caves (abandoned underground quarries), sometimes males will use hollow trees. Feeds on moths and beetles such as chafers and ground beetles, which they catch in flight or on the ground.

Hibernation Period: Winter.

Status: Protected. The species' internal navigation system is affected by light pollution. Its population is in decline.
