Fairy-ring Longhorn Beetle - Pseudovadonia livida



Scientific Name: Pseudovadonia livida.

English Name: Fairy-ring Longhorn Beetle.

French Name:

5 Key Characters:
  • length 5 - 9 mm.
  • small for a longhorn.
  • both sexes have yellowy brown round tipped elytra (wing cases).
  • very often observed on flowers.
  • associated with grassland where the fairy-ring fungus Marasmius oreades is also found.
Lookalikes: Male Blood Red Longhorn Beetle Anastrangalia sanguinolenta, which has black tipped, sharply truncated elytra.

Habitat: Flower rich grassland with fairy-ring fungus M. oreades present.

Active Period: May-June-July-August-September.

Status: Locally common.
